New Square, New Town Prospects
Tesco
The Challenge
To ensure New Square in West Bromwich delivered a return on investment for its developers, Tesco. With the promise of around 1,500 new jobs spread over 500,000 square feet of new retail space, the £140million landmark development had to be a success both for the region and its owners alike.
The Idea
We recommended a phased approach to communications with the local community, quietly handling sensitive issues around the compulsory purchase of homes and businesses first, along with the moving and rebuilding of a school and police station.
For several years, we then built relationships with stakeholders and the residents, keeping local people updated on the project’s progress through the critical stages, with activity reaching a crescendo around launch.
The Results
Our close working relationship with Sandwell Council and other project partners meant communications were carefully managed and maximised to their full potential
As a result, New Square in West Bromwich welcomed its millionth visitor a matter of months after opening, far exceeding footfall targets
