The Challenge

To develop a social media campaign that would create positive brand conversations for Checkatrade with new customer audiences.

In particular, the campaign needed to better explain the brand’s proposition and improve conversion efficiency.

The Idea

We launched Give Us A Lift, a carpool karaoke-style video series in which Checkatrade members were picked up in a van and given a lift to work, while chatting in a fun, friendly, informal way.

Partnering with Fix Radio, a station designed specifically for tradespeople that reaches over 35,000 listeners across the UK every week, we enlisted the help of sports pundit and TV personality Chris Kamara (aka Kammy) for the final instalment of the series.

An appealing mix of funny anecdotes, banter, singalongs, and jokes, combined with softer brand messages about how Checkatrade had helped each member grow their business, were included in the clips. To deliver the content, we created a model that engaged tradespeople at the top of the funnel, with a phased remarketing structure to bring warm prospects on the journey from awareness right through to consideration and final purchase.

The Results

Within weeks of launching, the campaign had smashed KPIs, achieving:

  • Reach 36% above target
  • Engagements 14% above target
  • 3-second views 26% above target
  • Video ThruPlays 31% above target
  • Cost per lead 22% below target and 44% lower than business as usual acquisition activity.
  • The conversation rate from lead to sale also doubled.
